Zagster operates at Ohio State University, not the University of Ohio, which is a fictitious place.

"This system will be an excellent opportunity for College park, Prince George's County, and anyone interested in bikeshare to experience a system that uses a different type of technology than what has...

Lack of compatibility with CaBi is obviously a problem, but the integrated bike locks are a nice idea. Maybe CaBi can incorporate that into the next generation of bikes.

@rc, I just made that fix. Thanks!

Thanks for the correction! My mistake.

I have used both Zagster and Alta bikeshare programs, and though I prefer the Capital Bikeshare-style Alta platform, Zagster is OK. I don't think the lack of compatibility will be a big deal, because...

As I recall, when College Park was finalizing its bike share contract there were also supply issues with Alta, making availability a question. I may be misremembering that, though.

I worry about the lack of integration with CaBi. Check out what has been happening in Jersey City and Hoboken, where two incompatible systems collide. Not good. Let's work to avoid this in the DC...

College Park officials reached out to Motivate (formerly Alta), CaBi's operator, during the procurement process, but the company didn't submit a proposal. Is there a source for this? I seem to recall...

renegade09- But what about a DC person who wants to take the Metro to College Park and then grab a bike to get to campus or somewhere else nearby? You have to sign up for a whole new system now to do...

Comment by Richard B

The map looks like it basically only covers the actual campus, not into the neighborhoods of University Park, Berwyn, or Adelphi. Hope that is just a bad image. In addition to bikeshare for College...

The Greenbelt Metro is located to be optimally inaccessible to non-drivers. This might be the path to solving that problem some time.

I do hope some sort of reciprocity is eventually introduced. Unlike Jersey City and Hoboken there is still a lot of room between College Park and the areas CABI covers where it'd be weird to see one...

Once it reaches Hyattsville, or Chillum, or anywhere near the PG DC border, it might become an issue. I would think that if Zagster were to be replaced it would be a simple task, because the racks are...

Yeah. This was a really bad call.

@DCJoe, Yeah, it will be inconvenient for some users to have to join two systems. On the other hand, Capital Bikeshare is currently a monopoly, and monopolies can cause problems. By having another...

It says in the article that "College Park officials reached out to Motivate (formerly Alta), CaBi's operator, during the procurement process, but the company didn't submit a proposal." I know that many...

I live around several of the furthest northeast CaBi stations and frequently use CaBi to travel into the urban core. I would have definitely used it to travel to College Park if I had the option. While...

@Richard B, the new system serves neighborhoods within the city of College Park (not just the campus), but not adjacent neighborhoods that are part of other jurisdictions. @Capt Hilts - the access...

Some interesting comments and some odd ones on this article. When College Park first tried to start up a bikeshare system, Bixi was going through its bankruptcy. That led to severe supply problems for...

@MB - Great question, thanks. I learned about the Zagster choice from the City of College Park, Community and Economic Development office.

I commute to UMD from DC via bike and I was hoping to see CaBi in college park for those times I use Metrorail (I don't trust the UMD shuttle's student drivers). The decision to use Zagster with a...
